Developers can experiment with PS5 system architecture on their own PCs
You can run core PlayStation 5 game files on your PC to observe how the system operates. Written from scratch in C#, this tool is an experimental project focused on accurate system behavior and infrastructure rather than game compatibility. It has currently reached the stage of loading actual game eboot.bin files and executing CPU instructions.
Implemented features and test targets
The emulator can load eboot.bin files from actual games and execute native CPU instructions. It handles some graphics processing features and uses 3D games such as Demon's Souls Remake, ASTRO BOT, ASTRO's PLAYROOM, Dead Cells, God of War: Sons of Sparta, and Tomb Raider V Remastered as test targets. It does not run all games perfectly, prioritizing the accuracy of the system itself over specific game compatibility.
Execution environment and requirements
It supports Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS x64 environments, with Apple Silicon Macs running via Rosetta 2 and Windows on ARM devices using built-in x64 emulation. A GPU with Vulkan support and the latest graphics drivers are required, while the macOS version includes the MoltenVK Vulkan implementation, so no separate installation is needed. Games must be run by specifying legally obtained eboot.bin files, and pirated games are not supported.
Research goals and referenced projects
This project is conducted for pure research and educational purposes and does not seek commercial profit. The developers enjoy learning about system architecture and reverse engineering, focusing exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform. Since PS4 game emulation already exists in the ShadPS4 project, this project is dedicated to understanding the unique structure of the PS5. The development process referenced the architecture and implementation patterns of existing projects such as ShadPS4, Kyty, and Ryujinx.
Points to verify given the experimental stage
As the emulator is in an early development stage, platform support is experimental, and compatibility and performance may vary significantly depending on the game, operating system, and GPU drivers. The official channels are only sharpemu.app and the links specified in this repository; other websites or donation pages are unofficial. It follows the GPL-2.0 license and does not include copyrighted system firmware, game data, or proprietary PlayStation assets. It is suitable for users aiming for technical research and learning rather than stable gameplay.
