Run Spotify Portal workflows directly inside coding agents
Using coding agents like Claude Code or Cursor while needing access to Spotify's internal systems required constant window switching. This plugin lets you run the Portal CLI directly within the agent. You can handle software catalog searches, service briefing generation, and diagnostics without leaving your coding environment.
Portal workflow within the agent
This repository is a plugin that connects the Spotify Portal CLI to coding agents. It provides five workflows: authentication setup, software catalog search, service briefing generation, diagnostics execution, and Portal action invocation. All tasks, including read-only diagnostics, are handled within the agent session. Action invocations include built-in help, dry runs, and confirmation steps to prevent errors.
Key workflows and features
Each workflow is designed for a specific purpose.
- Authentication setup Configures Portal CLI authentication for the current coding agent environment.
- Readiness diagnostics Checks the readiness of plugins, CLI, authentication, and actions in read-only mode.
- Natural language search Searches the software catalog and technical documentation using natural language queries.
- Service briefing Generates concise briefings containing ownership, health status, incident, and documentation information.
- Action invocation Discovers, inspects, previews, and safely executes Portal actions.
Installation and initialization
If you use Claude Code, add the marketplace with the claude plugin marketplace add spotify/portal-ai-plugins command and install the plugin with claude plugin install portal@portal. Start a new session and run /portal:setup to configure authentication. If you use Codex, run codex plugin marketplace add spotify/portal-ai-plugins, install from /plugins, and request "Set up Spotify Portal for me." If you use Cursor, register the repository in the team marketplace and install the plugin from settings. During installation, verify whether the auth, actions, owner, search, and service commands are required.
Shunt plugin for token savings
The marketplace also includes an additional plugin called shunt. It is currently available only for Claude Code. It routes I/O-intensive tasks, such as reading large files or generating template code, to a cheaper worker model in AiKA mode. This operates through the Portal CLI action registry and helps reduce token costs.
Pre-use checks
This plugin assumes an environment where the Spotify Portal CLI functions correctly. Before installing, ensure that npx @spotify/portal-cli runs and that the necessary commands exist. The shunt plugin is currently exclusive to Claude Code and cannot be used with other agents. The README does not specify the license or long-term support scope, so it is advisable to check compatibility with your organization's policies before using it as an internal tool.
